Qusetions About Pex Tubing You Should Know!

Mar. 10, 2022

Introduction:

Pex tubing is now widely used in water supply projects. Back in history, Pex tubing was created in the 1960s in Europe and was widely used and introduced in the US around 1980. People used to use galvanized pipe on a daily basis, but it is too heavy and difficult to put together or cut to fit. Therefore, the emergence of pex pipes is a revolution that has changed the user behaviors of water pipes and improved the work efficiency of water solutions.

In this article, let’s develop these several questions about pex tubing that you may care about more!

Question 1: What is Pex pipe?

PEX piping (manufactured with cross-linked polyethylene) costs less than half the price of copper and installs much faster. With its excellent corrosion resistance and flexible toughness, PEX makes remodelling jobs easier, which can help save you time by allowing for the simplest piping installation.
In today's competitive market, it is more and more important to choose products that improve productivity and profitability. If you're evaluating various pex pipe materials, here are some introduction about the types of pex tubes.

Types of pex tubing

Contrary to popular belief, A or B are not grades of PEX. These letters are used merely to identify the manufacturing process and have nothing to do with the quality or performance ratings of the end product.

- PEX-a:

PEX-a tubing is produced using Engel (or, Daoplas) method.

Ebgel method:
During the manufacturing process, mix HDPE resin powder with peroxide at high speed, then add it to the compound plunger extruder, apply high pressure to the material, under the action of high pressure and high temperature, the peroxide diffuses evenly into the resin and decomposes and cross-links.

- PEX-b:

PEX-b tubing is produced using Sioplas process or Monosil process.

Sioplas method:
During the manufacturing process, we will max the material of polyethylene, silane crosslinking agent, peroxide and other additives to form a new material A.
Than, fusion of polyethylene, crosslinking catalyst and other additives to form material B,
After we combine materials A and B, will finally extrude them into a pex-b tubing.

In addition to the strict quality countrol of materials, the complete pex piping system also pays attention to the adaptability of tools. Let us get familiar with these pex piping tools.

Commonly pex pipe tools

Pex pipe cutter:
For cutting various pipe materials and thicknesse

Pex crimp tool:
Choose the clamp head of the corresponding specification; when crimping, the clamp head is flush with the retaining ring of the product accessory.

Pipe clamp:
Firm the pipes and fittings

Go-No Go Gauges:
Use the Go-No Go gauge to make sure you have a wetertight connection

Question 2: Why Used Pex tubing

Due to the characteristic of pex tubing with an excellent flexibility, plumber are usually useing it for both hot and cold water solutions. Beside, because PEX piping is flexible, it doesn’t need to be installed using traditional branch piping techniques that require more connections; rather, it can be installed to a central manifold with pipes going directly to the fixtures which can reduces the number of possible leaks and shortens the installation process.

Above this, here we also list 3 reasons to explain the advantages of using pex tubing.

Advantage of using pex pipe

PEX tubing has three main advantages when used in your home: durability, reduced number of joints, and the ability to expand when frozen.

1. Durability of PEX piping
Before plumbing is installed in your home, work-site mishaps or shipping can damage your pipes. When working with copper and CPVC, invisible cracks or imperfections can lead to structural failure. All it takes is a drop, a dent, or an accidental misplacement of weight on the work-site.
With PEX piping, its flexibility and malleability keep it from incurring damage like other plumbing materials. This means that when your pex plumbing is installed, you don’t have to worry about failure from unnoticed imperfections. And any kind of plumbing failure, no matter how small, is something that no one wants to deal with.

2. Reduced Number of Plumbing Fittings
PEX piping is bendable and thus requires fewer joints to properly fit into each area of your home. This offers a more sound plumbing set up with improved longevity. Unlike other materials that need hundreds of fittings to put them together, PEX can be run with a minimum number of fittings.
What exactly does that mean for your home’s plumbing? Well, the more joints you have in your plumbing, the higher the likelihood that one of them will fail. A failure could lead to leaks, corrosion on metal materials in walls, and costly water damage.

3. PEX tubes Can Freeze Without Damage
In some areas that are subject to freezing temperatures, PEX piping is ideal due to its resiliency. PEX can expand if the water inside it freezes and then return to its original size after it thaws. Other materials such as copper and CPVC will crack and burst once the water inside them freezes.
Busted pipes can be a huge mess for your family to deal with in bitterly cold weather. Many times freezing issues happen during the holiday season, adding even more stress. By using PEX piping, you can avoid your pipes freezing and the mess that creates.

Questions 3: How to choose a pex tubes?

Quality takes priority. When we choose a pex piping product or pex pipe supplier, these two points are the key factors we need to focus on more:

Questions 4:How to connect pex tubing

As we know pex has made the plumbing project easier, The components are user-friendly for plumbers and leave water systems immediately ready for inspection.
Below, we also list 3 types of connecting modle for your reference

 - Clamp Type Connecting

1. Pipe cutting: pipe cutting at a vertical angle of 90°, pipe cutters below 32, and reamers above 32.

2. Install the pipe fitting: Insert the pipe into the pex pipe fitting.

3.Crimping:

- Choose a tool of the corresponding specification;
- Press the clamp head on the copper ring
- Crimp to the bottom and loosen the tool.
